Another shot of the clam removed. Easy enough job to do apart from the quality job Lotus did of securing the captive nuts for the mounting bolts to the inside (and hence inaccessible) of the sills etc. Whereas most people would choose perhaps a mechanical way of securing said nuts, Lotus chose to use a blob of mastic....

I had to remove the front clam shell to repair the services compartment hinge. Also took the opportunity to replace a cracked driving light, repaint the towing strut, replace the corroded headlights and fit Sport 160 smoked indicators.

Brand new GKN CV joint sourced for £29. Slide new boot on first then tap new joint home with the copper mallet. Secure the boot with the supplied clips, using a pair of carpenters nail pincers to crimp the clips tight. Job done.

After slicing off the CV boot with a stanley and wiping away the orrible grease, the outer CV joint can be removed by a couple of whacks with a copper mallet against it's inner race.

The offside driveshaft removed from the car. There was excessive radial play in the outer CV joint. The CV joint removal tool is poised ready for action.

The offside rear after removing the driveshaft. The driveshaft was removed by inserting the tip of a fork type balljoint splitter between the inner CV joint and the gearbox, and giving a light tap.
